A Brief Introduction to Members of Staff at New Horizon Community School

MISS U AFZAL

Miss Afzal is our Administration Officer yet she is very generous with her time and carries out various roles. The role she enjoys the most is of Child Protection Officer (CPO) as it allows her an opportunity to talk with every child. It is Miss Afzal who parents know best at NHCS as she is at the centre of all communication.

MS S AHMAD

Ms Ahmad has been the Head Teacher since September 2012 and has enjoyed every moment she has (so far) spent at New Horizon Community School. Ms Ahmad is a qualified teacher who has been in the education profession since 2005. She is adamant on establishing the school as a place where students thrive academically, socially and morally so that they naturally become examples of good ‘Islamic’ behaviour within the community. She is the Senior Delegated Person (SDP) within the Child Protection team.

MRS M BALOGUN

Mrs Balogun is the Assistant Head Teacher so is in charge in the absence of the Head Teacher. Mrs Balogun is respected by all staff and students due to her efficiency, ‘outstanding’ teaching and commitment to the school. Her many roles include: Year 11 Form Tutor; Examinations Officer; monitoring the academic achievements of students throughout the year groups as part of the Assessment and Learning Team in addition to teaching Key Stage 3 & 4 Mathematics. Mrs Balogun is so full of life so livens up the environment around her.

MRS S MOHAMAD

The longest serving teacher at New Horizon Community School is Mrs S Mohamad. An experienced and devoted teacher of Science and Form Tutor to our newest Year 7 class, Mrs Mohamad will no doubt continue to engage and inspire our girls. Mrs Mohamad is also an integral part of our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Team. She is therefore involved in guiding and supporting to develop the minds and souls of our students.

MS S YASIN

It is clear to everyone that Ms Yasin made an immediate impact on her arrival in October 2012. She is now Form Tutor to Year 8 and the Key Stage 4: English, Humanities and Psychology teacher. Ms Yasin is both a qualified and experienced teacher who is valued for her determination, approachability and hard work. She is without doubt excellent at multi-tasking! She is involved in organising school trips and monitoring the academic progress of Key Stage 4 students as part of the Assessment and Learning Team..

MS A SHOUKET

Ms Shouket is an exciting addition to the New Horizon Community. She is Form Tutor to Year 9 and teaches Key Stage 3 & 4 Religious Studies and Key Stage 4 Psychology. She is additionally involved in organising the SMSC Team. Ms Shouket is a qualified ‘outstanding’ teacher whose enthusiasm inspires all members of staff (very early in the morning) and students throughout the day. The secret to her motivated and  determined attitude might just be a hot cup of coffee and a Metro newspaper!

MS R MUJAHIDY

Ms Mujahidy is very much liked and respected by all her students. She is Form Tutor to Year 10 and teaches Key Stage 3 English, Humanities and Key Stage 4 Citizenship. Ms Mujahidy is involved in the School Council so does a lot to engage the imagination of students in order to direct their attention to many social issues – both local and international. The school has been involved in many charitable events thanks to the school council. Ms Mujahidy is also part of the SMSC team and enjoys sharing spiritual anecdotes and religious teachings.

MRS I AWONAIYA

Mrs Awonaiya teaches Key Stage 3 & 4 ICT and is Co-Form Tutor of Year 7. Mrs Awonaiya also naturally supports those members of staff who require help with ‘technical problems’ which is an incredibly important job and not one to be undermined! The result of Mrs Awonaiya’s commitment to her students are the late nights she spends working in the ICT Suite and excellent GCSE Results.

MRS N MOHAMED

Our language teacher respectively offers Arabic: a beautiful language which offers opportunities for the girls to develop culturally and spiritually. Mrs Mohamad also teaches Tajweed which involves demonstrating importance of acquiring knowledge in order to recite the Holy Qur’an.

MS M FARRUKH

Our Physical Education Teacher, Ms Farrukh is one of our youngest members of staff yet she is determined to fulfil her position as a teacher: one
who inspires students with her work ethos and practises. She is determined to turn New Horizon Community School into a health conscious
environment which will involve motivating staff (good luck!) as well as students to learn about what constitutes a healthy lifestyle. Some initiatives are already in practise.

MRS S HANIF

A new member of our NHCS Community, Mrs Hanif is a qualified teacher who will teach Art at Key Stage 3 and offer the Art GCSE Short at Key Stage 4.

MS A AKHTAR

Ms Akhtar is a familiar face at New Horizon school. She has returned to teach Islamic Education. Our students will no doubt be delighted!

MISS A YOUSAF

Miss Yousaf is invaluable to subject teachers who require her assistance in class in order to ensure all students receive the attention they deserve – especially when students are struggling to understand instructions and subject content. Miss Yousaf is extremely caring and her creativity captures the imagination of our girls, who simply love being in her company.
